Before freezing strawberries it is important to check them. Discard all those which are not in good condition; those that are a bit rotten, mouldy or discoloured because these are not suitable for consumption. Also, remember that defrosted strawberries do not have the same texture or flavour as fresh ones.

How to Freeze Strawberries - Step 1

Before freezing strawberries it is a good idea to wash and dry them. Under no circumstances should you put the fruit into the freezer when wet or they will harden too much. For this reason it is important to take time to dry them properly.

Once the strawberries have been washed and dried they can be placed in a container where they are not touching. In this way you avoid them becoming joined when frozen. Choose a spacious and suitable container for your strawberries and place them in a flat part of your freezer where they will be stable.

If you decide to freeze them without adding any sugar, bear in mind that they will be at a higher risk of getting freezer burn, so it's better if you consume them within six months of freezing.

If you prefer to freeze strawberries with a sweet touch, the best thing is to make a sugar syrup. Mix four cups of water and one of sugar and bring it to the boil. You'll see how the sugar thickens to make transparent syrup. Add the syrup to the container and then add the strawberries using the previous instructions. When thawed you will have a delicious flavour worthy of any dessert.

Furthermore, when strawberries are kept in liquid they retain their colour and shape, making them more beautiful when thawed.

How to Freeze Strawberries - Step 4

If you do not have a good container for freezing strawberries, use some tin foil. Without washing them, wrap the strawberries separately in foil pieces and put them in the freezer, taking care that they do not get squashed. When defrosted they will be in perfect condition.
