Fried almonds made at home have more flavour and are a little lighter than buying ready-made ones. Even though consuming almonds fried with salt is not the healthies way to eat them, it is still an excellent alternative when we want a delicious and easy snack. Among the many health benefits of almonds are these:

  • High quantity of antioxidants. However, the highest quantity of these antioxidants are concentrated in the brown layer of the skin, so if you want to get them all you need to eat the almonds with the skin.
  • High in Vitamin E, which protects the cells from oxidative damage.
  • Low in carbohydrates but high in healthy fats, protein and fiber.
  • High in Magnesium, a mineral involved in blood sugar control.
  • Eating almonds reduces hunger, which also reduces your calorie intake.
  • Cholesterol-lowering effects.

Start by buying some good quality blanched almonds. Make sure that they are crisp, as this is the key to delicious fried almonds.

Put three tablespoons of olive oil (preferably mild) or sunflower oil in a frying pan. When the oil is very hot add a handful of almonds bearing in mind that they should not be too close together because you'll need space to stir them.

Keep stirring the almonds frequently so that they get nicely browned on both sides. It is important that you stay next to the pan as the almonds could get burned very easily. Once you have got the colour you want you can remove them from the heat and place them on a plate or platter with absorbent paper. In this way the excess oil will be absorbed and your fried almonds will be perfect.

Now add salt to taste, let them cool and they're ready! With these simple steps you can enjoy this delicious homemade snack.

Do you think it's a good recipe but are too lazy to use a frying pan? Well, the good news is that you can fry almonds in the microwave and get excellent results.

Add a handful of almonds to a microwave-safe container, add mild olive oil and salt and mix well. Make sure that all the almonds are covered with both ingredients.

Then place them in the microwave at 700 W for 3 minutes. After this time the almonds should be fried but if you think that they could do with a bit longer, put them in for another minute and keep an eye on them.

Put them on a plate with absorbent paper to remove excess grease and they're ready. Without even turning on the stove you can enjoy delicious fried almonds at home in a few minutes.
