You'll need:
  • Mason jar
  • Water
  • Mung beans
Steps to follow:
1

The first thing you need to know is that not all seeds are suitable for home sprouting. If you want to start growing your beans at home, make sure that the ones you buy are sold for home sprouting. Don't use beans or seeds that are sold for planting, as these may have been treated with pesticides and other substances that are harmful for your health and that could lead to poisoning.

When you buy the beans always tell the person who is selling them that you want them for sprouting at home.

2

Once you have the correct mung beans we can start with the process of sprouting them:

3

Wash the mung beans until the running water comes clean. Mung beans are usually dusty so you need to make sure they're completely clean before preparing them.

4

Put the seeds inside a mason jar to fill no more than one-third of it.

5

Make little holes on the lid of the jar. The water you add to the mung beans to rinse them will need to be drained, so the little holes ensure that you can do this without having to open the jar and throwing the beans on the sink.

6

Add lukewarm water in the jar, until you almost fill it. Close the jar and leave it soak overnight.

7

On the next day, rinse the beans with cold water and thoroughly drain them.

8

Don't add more water to the jar.

9

Lay the jar on its side and store it somewhere at room temperature. The place where you leave the jar with the beans needs to be dark or gloomy.

10

Keep it at room temperature and rinse and drain the contents of the jar two to four times a day.

11

You'll have to repeat this for around three or five days, until the mung beans are fully sprouted.

12

When the beans are fully sprouted rinse and drain them well and put them in the fridge. As these beans are completely natural, you need to use them within two or three days, otherwise they will go off.

If you wish, you can also skip the last rinse on the last day. Leave the sprouts to grow for 24 hours without adding any water. This way they will generate more heat and will grow more. However, they can generate too much heat and start to slow cook. For this reason, we only recommend you to skip the water on the last day when the weather is cold. Don't do it in the summer or during hot weather.
