Ingredients

To make Matcha green tea you will need the following ingredients:

  • A chasen, or a handmade whisk of bamboo
  • A matcha chawan, or tea bowl
  • A chashaku, or a measuring ladle
  • A tea strainer
  • Matcha powder

Step by step instructions

For one cup of Matcha green tea you should follow these instructions:

  • Take 1 ½ tsp of Matcha powder in your strainer
  • Sift the Matcha powder, let it fall in your tea bowl, use the ladle to swirl the powder around your strainer, ensuring no clumps are left and tea is smooth
  • Pour around 2 ounces of boiling water in a tea cup, let it cool down for a minute, and pour it in the tea bowl with Matcha powder
  • Use the chasen to whisk and combine the tea. Use gentle circular motions to make a smooth, thin tea. You may also move in brisk W or M shaped motions to get a foamy tea. Keep whisking for around 20 seconds until the tea becomes bright green in color
  • Carefully pour this tea in a tea cup
  • Your foamy Matcha tea is ready. You should drink it immediately, as powder will settle down after some time
