How to Make Almond Butter at Home

Making almond butter at home is time consuming, but a lot easier and cheaper than buying from a store. Supplies required are minimal, and the delicious taste you get is really worth the time. This creamy, delicious, filling butter makes a fantastic addition to a healthy snack. Most market bought almond butters contain fillers, which are not good for our health. So instead, you should try making it yourself. Here at OneHowTo we will tell you how to make almond butter at home.
Put 3 cups of raw almonds to your food processor. If you have a bigger machine, you can add 4-5 cups of almonds. We recommend raw almonds, because when the food processor does its work, the butter gets heated, and already baked almonds can get over-baked. Add a small pinch of sea salt to the almonds, and turn on the machine to low. Allow it to process for 10-20 minutes.
Stop the food processor from time to time to clear the sides. Coarsely chopped almonds will stick to the sides of the processor. You will have to scrape them down to ensure even processing throughout.

Keep opening the lid and check for its consistency. After around 5 minutes, you will see that the almonds have coarsely chopped. After 10 minutes, the almonds will become finer. You will start noticing major changes in the butter’s texture after around 15 minutes of processing. As the almonds will release their oils, they will start sticking together, and you will see a big mass moving around the processor. After around 20 minutes, your almond butter will start looking grainy.
Add 3 table spoons of coconut oil, and a little bit of salt to the butter. This part is not necessary, but optional. After 2 more minutes of processing, it will become creamy and smooth, even much better than a store-bought almond butter.

If you want the almond butter to have a sweeter taste, you can add some honey. Finally, transfer the butter in a container and store in the refrigerator. This almond butter goes perfectly well with jelly sandwich or a raw apple. You can even eat it directly from the jar. If you like almonds there are many other things you can do with them at home such as almond oil or almond sauce.
