Cut off the ends of the green beans and cut them into small pieces. Shell the string beans and the peas, if you have bought them in pods.

The next step in preparing your vegetable stew is to peel the carrots and asparagus, and cut both vegetables into several pieces. Cut these vegetables into pieces as big or small as you want. Also, put some water into a pot or a large enough pan and put it onto the heat until the water starts to boil.

Now you can hard boil your eggs. Let them boil for around 8 minutes. Once boiled, run cold water over the eggs and let them cool completely before peeling them.

Now you have all the vegetables ready, you just have to wait for the water in the pot to boil then add some salt and the vegetables. The overall cooking time will depend on how you like your stew: al dente, rather chunky, well-cooked... You must save the cooking water, so don't drain your vegetables stew with a colander.

Once your vegetable stew has boiled, get another pot or a shallow pan and add in the garlic and onion along with a tablespoon of flour. Add all the vegetables and cooking water; you might not need all of this water because we are looking to make a thick stew, not broth. Keep it on the heat for about 10 minutes and flavour with salt if necessary. Add in the boiled eggs cut into quarters and a few slices of braised ham (or roasted in the oven).
