Ingredients:
You'll need:
  • Transparent folder
Steps to follow:
1

To start making the flowers, get the fondant in the colour you want and roll it into a sausage like in the image. Then, rip 10 pieces, 9 small and as equal as possible and one larger one. The size of the pieces will determine the size of your fondant flower, the bigger they are, the larger the flower will be.

If you want to make your own fondant at home, here is the recipe.

2

Once you have these pieces, we can start to create our fondant decoration. You will need the bigger piece to make the rose bud. Squash it using a folder and flatten it with your fingers. Use the picture as a reference. For better petals, lightly press one side to make it thinner.

3

Now, roll the sheet into a spiral shape and keep the thinner part on top. When you have rolled it up with your thumb and index finger, press the outer layer down to simulate the open flower bud. There you already have the first part of your fondant decoration.

4

Now, start adding the fondant flower petals. To do this, make small balls out of the remaining pieces. Take the ball and, as we did with the flower bud, put it in the folder and flatten it with your fingers. It is not important that it is rounded, you can mould it a bit to shape it into a petal.

5

Place the petal right where the cocoon spiral ends and surround it with the petal. To paste it, wet the tip of your fingers with water and lightly press the petal to moisten it. Go easy on the amount of water you use, because too much could make it more difficult to manipulate. When you have attached the petal, put the top down to make the petal shape.

6

Attach all the petals by following the previous step, flattening them and placing them around the previous petal and shaping them. Paste each petal where the previous one ends so that they are alternating and well-distributed around the flower, so it will look like a fully open rose.

7

When you finish adding all the petals, you will see that the bottom is very long and ugly, like a tail, so you can remove it. To get rid of the tail without ruining the rose, carefully twist it until it breaks. Where it breaks, smooth the bottom of the flower to make it rounded.

8

And there you have your fondant flowers ready to decorate your cakes! As you see, this is a very simple fondant creation that will not take more than 15 minutes to make. With these simple steps, you can create beautiful roses that are any size you want. You can buy edible glitter and sprinkle flowers with it for a more eye-catching touch.
