Once you have cleaned your blackcurrants properly and made sure there are no loose twigs or leaves, the first step to make Ribena juice from the fruit is to pour the blackcurrants and the water in a bowl or dish that will fit over a saucepan to do a bain marie. Once the blackcurrants have softened, gently squash them with a fork or similar while they simmer for around an hour to let the juice out.

3

Once the blackcurrants have turned into juice, use a sieve or similar utensil to make sure only the juice is extracted. Make sure you get one pint of blackcurrant juice to adjust to the sugar measurements. Repeat the procedure if you need more juice.

4

The next step will be to add the pint of blackcurrant juice to a saucepan with the 300g of sugar. Cook the mixture on low heat until the sugar has completely dissolved.

Make sure you keep stirring every now and them to make sure the sugar doesn't solidify on the saucepan's sides.

5

Pour the blackcurrant syrup in previously sterilized jars or bottles and let the mixture cool down completely. Once it's cold, you can put the top on safely and store it in the fridge for as long as two months if you like.

To use it, dilute a spoonful of your homemade Ribena juice in a glass of water. Now you can enjoy your own blackcurrant syrup beverage at home!
