Making vegan condensed milk is very similar to making normal dairy condensed milk, the only difference is that you will be using a milk that doesn't come from animal sources. You can make your vegan condensed milk with any vegetable milk you prefer. You can choose among soy, rice, almond, coconut... any non-dairy milk you like.

However, note that some non-dairy milks don't contain enough solids and the final result of the condensed milk won't be smooth. You can make your own nut milks to make sure it's thick. The first thing you need to know is that making condensed milk is easy but it takes time. When you condense milk, all the water evaporates and the sugars caramelize. It takes time to do this, as the water needs to evaporate slowly.

For this reason, if you need the condensed milk for a dessert or special occasion, we recommend you to prepare it a couple of days or at least one day before. You can keep it in the fridge when you're done and use it later.

Now that you know all the information we can start preparing the vegan condensed milk.

4

Put the non-dairy milk, the sweetener and the vanilla extract in a saucepan at medium-low heat. Don't leave the mixture to boil as you might burn it.

5

Continuously whisk the mixture until the volume is reduced to 1 cup. This could take up to 2 hours. You don't need to be in front of the saucepan the whole time but let it simmer and whisk the mixture so it stays thick and smooth. When you see that the milk has a thicker consistency and has lost almost all its water is when it's ready.

6

After a couple of hours your condensed milk will be ready. Note that the preparation time might vary depending on which milk you use. Just remember to don't put the fire too high and continuously whisk the mixture until it's ready.
