The first step to make grenadine syrup is to mix the sugar and pomegranate juice together. If you can't find any unsweetened pomegranate juice, you can also make your own by getting two Grenadines and blending them well. Sieve with a leaden sieve so you get rid of all the pips.

Once you have your juice made and added with the sugar, you should add the mixture to a small skillet or sauce pan, and turn on medium heat on the stove.

You shouldn't stop stirring until the sugar gets completely dissolved or it will clump up into small balls, and this is precisely what we want to avoid by stirring.

Let it boil, keep it on the boil for a few more minutes until the mixture thickens.

Take the syrup off the heat and allow the mixture to cool. Once it's cooled, add juice of half a lemon to the mixture.

Now's the time to taste your homemade grenadine syrup. You can add a few more drops of lemon juice to highlight the tartness of your grenadine syrup, it all depends on your tastes.

Once you have got the perfect taste for your Grenadine syrup, place a funnel over a clean and sterilized bottle, and store the syrup in the bottle with a date label. This syrup can be kept stored in the refrigerator for around one month, just make sure you keep the bottle tightly closed.
