How To Make Cakes Without An Oven
People used to make cakes even when electric ovens were not invented. So, why do you feel so dependent on these appliances now? There may be times when you don’t have an oven, it has gone for repair, it has broken down, or electricity has shut down in your area. Does that mean that you can no longer make a cake for your family? Here at OneHowTo.com, we will give you step by step instructions on how to make cakes without an oven.
First of all, you need to understand that the ingredients and batter you use for making the cake is similar to the cake you cook in an oven. The only difference is the method of cooking, which is not baking but cooking on the gas stove.
To make cakes without an oven, prepare the baking pan by greasing it with butter, or lining it with a parchment paper, and then dusting it lightly with some flour. Click here to know how to substitute parchment paper in baking.
Now, place a cooking iron rack in an empty, clean wide pot, cover it tightly with a lid, and let it pre-heat on the stove on high flame for at least 5-10 minutes. Make sure that the pot is completely dry and clean, as even a little amount of water or oil in it can smoke, and lead to undesirable results.
While the vessels are heating, beat the sugar and butter in a bowl until it achieves a creamy consistency, add eggs and beat properly, add milk, colors and flavors, beat again, and finally add the flour and the baking powder. Mix all the ingredients together, and pour the mixture into the pre-heated baking pan.
Now open the pot carefully, as it will be very hot, and place the cake pan on the heated rack. Never place the cake pan directly on the pot’s bottom, as it may cause the cake to burn. Always place some hot sand or a rack between the cake pan and the pot.
Now, again cover the pot, and let the cake bake properly on medium heat for around 5 minutes. Now, turn the heat to low, and let it bake for 15-30 minutes. The bigger your cake is, the longer time you will have to bake it for.
Open the pot after 15 minutes, dip a toothpick or skewer in the center of the cake, and see if it comes out with some batter on it, or clean. If it is still moist, you will have to bake it more, and if it comes out clean, it is done, and you can take it out from the pot.
