You will need:

  • 2-1/2 cups butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1/4 cup 2% milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 7-1/2 to 8 cups (30 to 32 oz.) all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  1. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy for about 5 minutes.
  2. Beat in the eggs, milk and vanilla.
  3. In another bowl, whisk 7-1/2 cups flour, baking powder and salt. Gradually beat the ingredients into the creamed mixture, adding more flour if necessary.
  4. Divide the dough into four 2-cup portions.
  5. Cover and refrigerate the dough until needed.

Once you have your cookie dough, either store-bought or home made, you can now make ghost shapes with a halloween cookie cutter or simply by using a butter knife.

Once you have the ghost-shaped cookie, it's time to bake them! Put your cookies in the oven and bake them to your liking. Generally, cookies are baked in a moderate oven at 350º F (175º C) for 8 to 12 minutes, depending on the size of the cookie. For chewy cookies, allow them to cool on the baking sheet for 3 to 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

Now that it is baked and has cooled down, you can start decorating it! Roll out the white fondant dough, cut it into the same shape as the cookie and place it on the cookie. To stick it, wet your fingertips with water and dab lightly on the cookie, so the layer of white fondant will completely stick.

After placing the white base of the ghost made with fondant, it's time to make the face with black fondant. This step is very simple, because you only have to make three balls with the black fondant. Two for the eyes and a slightly larger one for the mouth.

To make the ghost's mouth, squash the ball into an oval shape. The more oval the mouth, the scarier the ghost cookie for Halloween will be!
