How To Make Vegetarian Dumplings From Scratch
Who said vegetarians and vegans can't eat dumplings? Although these are usually prepared with minced meat, the truth is that they can be made with soybean, more specifically with textured vegetable protein, a completely vegetarian and vegan ingredient. The first step you'll need to take to make vegetarian dumplings from scratch is to hydrate the textured soya, also known as TVP, for at least half an hour before starting to prepare these soya mince balls. You can choose to make it with water or vegetable broth, as you prefer.
Some packages of TVP have other hydrating times so make sure you read the package to hydrate for the correct amount of time.
Once the soya is completely hydrated, wring it out well to remove any excess water. A clean, dry kitchen cloth will help to get rid of the excess moist.
In a bowl or basin, add a little soya milk to dip the bread crumbs. Add it to the TVP to prepare the dough for the dumplings. Take one or two cloves of minced garlic and parsley, according to taste.
The next step will be to mix the ingredients by kneading all the ingredients together with your hands to get a smooth paste.
Next, shape the dough balls to turn them into vegetarian dumplings. Using a spoon can help, but your hands are the best tools.
Dip the vegetarian dumplings in flour and fry them in hot oil. When you take them out, place them on a kitchen paper towel to remove any excess oil.
Next, you need to chop the vegetables and sauté them in a pan and season them. First, add the onion and when they turn golden brown, gradually add the carrots, peppers, tomatoes... and any other vegetables you want to use.
Once you have prepared the vegetables, add the dumplings to the pan and let them simmer for about 10 minutes.
