Avocado diet

Avocados have always been considered fruits that are unfit for weight loss diets. This is because they are a food that, within its family (fruit) contains a high level of calories compared to the others. The reason for this is that they contain water and are made up of essential oils that increase energy intake. However, recent studies have found that avocado fat is the good kind; meaning it is a fat that helps regulate cholesterol levels.

While we need to be cautious when we eat avocado, it also contains a high amount of monounsaturated fats that make you feel full for longer and therefore you do not get hungry between meals. The fibres and proteins that this fruit also contains promote this feeling and help us feel satisfied longer.

Therefore, to lose weight with avocados, we need to eat this fruit during the first part of the day (breakfast and lunch) to burn your calories for the rest of the day and take advantage of the energy it gives us. More than two-thirds of the calories in avocados are used by the body as a slow-burning power source, so try the recipes below before going to exercise.

In this OneHowTo article we tell you all the avocado's properties since it's a star ingredient both for food and for cosmetics.

Tuna stuffed avocados

This slimming recipe with avocado works perfectly because it combines two high-protein sources that are recommended for sports so you can use their calories in the form of energy. To make this recipe you will need:

  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cans of tuna without oil
  • Lettuce
  • 1 lemon
  • Light mayonnaise
  • Salt and pepper

The first step is to cook the egg in a pot with a little water. While you are doing this, wash the lettuce and chop it into fine pieces that serve to fill the avocado. Then horizontally cut the avocado and extract the pit; remove the fruit from the centre, then chop and mix it with the lettuce. When the egg is ready, remove it from the heat and also chop it to mix it with the filling.

To stop the fruit from turning black, mix it with a little lemon juice. Then chop the tuna and mix it with the rest of the filling with a little salt, pepper and mayonnaise to taste, then re-mix. Now just fill the inside of the avocado with the filling and enjoy a delicious meal that is low in calories.

Avocado and chicken salad

Avocado is also a star ingredient in salads because it provides a lot of protein and energy that you can run on for the whole afternoon. This is a great dish to eat in the office or on a day you have to prepare something fast, because it is very simple to prepare and its nutritional content is very high.

Ingredients:

  • 1 avocado
  • 1 fillet of chicken breast
  • 1 tomato
  • 1/2 onion
  • Chopped parsley
  • Lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper

To make this avocado salad, first cook the chicken breast; to do this, squirt a little lemon juice in a pan and when hot, cook the meat to your liking. Once ready, cut it into cubes and set aside. Then open the avocado, remove the pit and cut the fruit into cubes as well. Do the same with the tomato. For the onion, it's best to cut it in julienne strips for a softer texture.

Once all the ingredients are ready, mix them in a bowl and add salt, pepper, lemon juice and, if you want, a splash of olive oil (remember that oil will increase the calories of your plate so it's better to leave it out). Add some chopped parsley on top of your salad and enjoy a delicious recipe perfect for any day of the week.

When marinated, add the raw shrimp and a little salt and put it in the refrigerator for 5 minutes. Then put some oil in the pan and fry the shrimp until they are a little browned.

The next step is to cut the avocado, remove the pit from the centre and add the sautéed shrimp. Add the cheese and put the avocados in the oven until you see that the cheese melts or au gratin, to your taste. Afterwards, just remove it from the oven and serve hot. Enjoy!
